For many years, our only options to replace missing teeth were dental bridges and dentures. Not too long ago, however, dental implants emerged. If you’re looking for dental implants near you, all you have to do is visit us at Star Plus Dental in Sugar Land, TX.
Our team of dentists has plenty of experience when it comes to the installation, maintenance, and repair of dental implants. If you’re interested in discussing other options like bridges and dentures, we’d be glad to answer your questions. All three restorative options can be performed at Star Plus Dental. We’ll tell you what we think would suit your dental situation best and let you decide.
Dental implants are simple. We just attach, or implant, a titanium screw into the jawbone. This can be done to replace one tooth or several. Patients can also get implants in their upper or lower rows of teeth. The important thing is for the bone to be strong enough to support the screw.
It’ll take a few months for the screw to become properly fixated to the bone. Placing the permanent tooth over the screw too soon can make the whole structure fall. While we wait for the screw to adhere tightly, we’ll place a lighter and temporary artificial tooth over it so you can eat. Once adherence is confirmed, the temporary tooth is replaced with a permanent one.
The main perk of implants is that they’re attached directly to the bone. They have nothing to do with surrounding teeth. Bridges and dentures need surrounding teeth for support. Implants are also a lot more durable and are the closest to natural teeth in terms of strength and appearance.
There will be almost no restrictions or limitations with implants. Naturally, you’ll have to continue to brush and floss your teeth. Keep in mind that your implants can become stained just like your natural teeth, so you’ll have to watch your caffeine and tobacco intake. Most implants last a lifetime as opposed to bridges which last about 10 to 15 years.
